Who, What, Why?
Hello! Perhaps you follow me on Instagram? Or maybe you’ve found me via Interior Design Masters? Maybe you picked up my book: Happy Inside: How to Harness the Power of Home for Health and Happiness? Or it’s because of my 13-year tenure as Editor in Chief of ELLE Decoration magazine (my last issue was October 2017)?
However you found me, I’m super happy that you’re here, welcome! I want to inspire, if not empower you to harness the power of your home as a pathway to health, healing and happiness.
So if being energised and excited for life sounds good to you, then let me help you stack the odds in your favour.
In my twice weekly newsletters I share what’s inspiring or surprising me in the home/health sphere but also anything else of note that I think you might like to know about. Usually these are topics in the realm of mind/body/environment, wellbeing and preventative health, after all, you are a vital part of the energy metric of your home — if you are feeling depleted, your home will reflect this. And vice versa.
Why? Because our habits and our habitats are intimately interwoven with how we feel. As such, caring about what surrounds you is absolutely fundamental to living/homing well and staying healthy. Your home should be a place that sustains and supports you to become your best self. Sadly, so often they do not, and we silently sabotage ourselves without realising.
So, it’s time to make your home your superpower!
Why subscribe…
If you subscribe, you won’t have to worry about missing a thing. My free letters will go directly to your inbox. I also offer previews to all paid posts, so if something tickles your interest, you get a chance to upgrade…
Mostly though, I ask you to subscribe, even if just for free, so I can crack on with changing your life! I do the research so that you don’t have to. We are drowning in information, but starving for wisdom. I want to give you that, backed by thorough research and evidence-backed science.
So why pay to subscribe?
I confess, I wasn't sure whether to go all in for free, to simply share the passion and the research, or to offer a paid model alongside. I understand that times are tight for many of us, and yet I want to create something that is sustainable, and allows for re-investment — Happy Inside courses are the dream, more online downloads and workbooks, hardcopy books, a virtual Happy Insiders Club, even a podcast! But these all come with costs. And bluntly, as a time-poor single parent with overheads I’m trying to make my way too, while also trying to serve.
So, my monthly Letter will always be in front of the paywall, and I try to post at least one or two free access Bonus Letters a month too. But the rest of the content (2 posts/week), the ability to comment, join Threads and Conversations alongside priority access to my special downloads and all of the workbooks I create, plus full access to the entire archive (not just the last 3 months), is only for those with paid subscriptions (less than the price of a latte for a whole month of content!). So if you can support Better Home: Better Health, please do. In return I sincerely promise to do my utmost to make it worth your while.
On a fundamental level too, a world in which we don’t think twice about paying £4 for a cup of coffee but baulk at buying a book or newspaper is a world in trouble. I love magazines, broadsheets and the printed word with a fervent passion. I devoted a huge chunk of my life to crafting ELLE Decoration into a thing of beauty with a strong voice and a unique enquiring stance. This is my online version of what I started there, and so much more.
Your support of independent voices is also, to quote from a recent post from Substack HQ itself, “a vote for a better media system—one that combines the quality of traditional media with the reach of social media. You are investing in a system that rewards integrity, that is powered by relationships instead of attention, that redistributes ownership and power.” For these reasons alone, I hope you’ll not mind tipping for the ride.
