If we want to be happier, then it’s a good idea to be optimistic. Sounds obvious? Maybe. But annoyingly, this would appear to go against evolution. You see our brains are not designed to keep us happy, they are designed to keep us safe.

But while it might sound like magical thinking, science suggests that cultivating an optimistic outlook could be one of the most powerful tools we have for thriving in modern life.
